Due to the non-existence of a specific conference focused on safety and usability of vehicle information and communication technologies, The HUMANIST NoE decided to set up a European conference on Human Centred Design for Intelligent Transport Systems.
The aim was to gather the community of Human Factors researchers, to offer an overview of the current developments and trends and to create an area for discussions and debates on these topics.
The first European conference on Human Centred Design for Intelligent Transport Systems was held in Lyon on 3rd and 4th April 2008.
During the 2-days conference, thirty three peer-reviewed papers were presented in six sessions: “Drivers’ distraction due to ITS use”, “Tools and methodologies for safety and usability”, “Modelling of drivers’ behaviour for ITS design”, “Tools and methodologies for ITS design and drivers awareness”, “Diversity and specificity of road user groups” and “Drivers’ acceptance of assistance functions”.
The European Conference was successful with 120 participants from Europe but also from Japan, Australia, Canada, USA.
The event gathered half of members from the Humanist NoE and half from other Institutes and companies.
During the conference, an award for the young researcher’s best paper was granted to Nadja Rauch, a young researcher from University of Wuerzburg (Germany) among 12 applicants.
The next edition of the Conference will be hold in Germany in 2010.
